Visitation congratulates, Javana! Our very own Javana was nominated by 3 staff members for being charismatic. She was presented with the student of the month award for April during our last Mass of the month. The student of the month award is sponsored by Jerry from the Knights of Columbus. We are so thankful to have Jerry be apart of this award.

Visitation's Student of the Month
Thursday, April 26, 2012
First grade visited 3rd grade students to listen and learn about their natural disaster projects. Students roamed the upper hallway and sat down with a 3rd grade student to learn what their research project was about. We loved being able to see what 3rd grade was learning and how they presented it to us. Fantastic job, 3rd grade and thank you for sharing!

New things happening in the WILD FIRST GRADE
It has been a long time since I have updated everyone on the wonderful things first grade has been doing and learning in our class. We have enjoyed art, reading projects, being scientists, a new math program online, learning about the Holy Spirit and fairytale writing.
I would like to first say, I am extremely proud of how well first grade is reading and their excitement of books. They love books so much, I sometimes have to take them away from them so we can learn other things. They are learning spelling rules and decoding words based on the skills we have learned. They have been working really hard on sight words and choosing good fit books. Way to go, kiddos!
For the month of March, we wrote a fairytale about catching a leprechaun. The students used their imagination to come up with these fun stories. I was impressed by all the details the students included in their stories. We cannot wait to share them with you.
We just finished up our science unit, Solids and Liquids. As a scientist, we investigated different solids and liquids and their properties. We also experimented with adding water to some solids and watching them dissolve into a liquid. Two of our favorite experiments was watching oil and water separate and seeing if toothpaste was a solid or liquid. We played a fun jeopardy game yesterday to review everything we learned over the unit and today we will take our unit test.
Checkout the photos taken by our first grade photographers. Each week, a student is assigned to the job of taking photos of students in action learning.
Special Visitors in Grade 1
Yesterday, first grade had two very special guests visit the classroom! My grandparents came down from Chewelah, WA and stopped by on there way to visit my family in Shelton. My grandpa is very sick and we have been sending prayers his way during our special prayer time. So, this was a very special day for the class to meet them and for my grandpa to get the chance to see our school.
While our visitors were here, the students each introduced themselves and shared one thing they like about Visitation. Many shared that the people at Visitation are nice, love recess and science, like to learn from the teachers here, and like their first grade teacher :) My grandparents shared with the class where they are from and what they used to do for careers. The class also read our weekly story to them. The smiles on the students faces and on my grandparents were priceless. This is a memory that I will treasure for a lifetime and will never forget. I am glad that he had the chance to meet my terrific class and see me doing what I love to do...being a TEACHER :)
My grandparents are all smiles! They loved meeting my class! |
Listening to the class read the story, "Lost." Read by the first grade students. |
